There's a new pub in Angel with the Islington Townhouse

Taking over the old spot left by Round Midnight, there's a new pub in Angel - The Islington Townhouse, launched by Hippo Inns. They're the people behind the Lillie Langtree, Duke of Sussex in Waterloo and the Signal in Forest Hill, among others. So what can we expect from this recovered pub?

It's on three floors - including an upstairs dining area for 26 that can be hired - and there's a hideaway snug on the ground floor too.

The new menu is a mix of small plates and "old favourites" as well as a pretty good value burger and chips for £6. So expect cured English meats (including Suffolk rosemary salami and chorizo) and a selection of small plates including:

  • Twice baked gruyere souffle (£6)
  • Octopus carpaccio, home pickles, herbs (£7)
  • 35 day aged fillet steak tartare, toast (£8.5)
  • Chicken schnitzel, capers, brown butter (£7)
  • Venison kebab, cavelo nero, flatbread (£8)
  • Burnt sugar plums, marshmallow crumble (£5)

As for the beer, expect a wide range of craft beer, new and old world wine, and a short cocktail list including an Irish Martini -  that's coffee, coffee infused vodka and Guinness syrup.

The Islington Townhouse is open now at 13 Liverpool Road, London N1 0RW. For more, follow them on Twitter @islingtontownH.
