What: The Blue Posts

In a nutshell: The Palomar pub

Summing it all up: The people behind The Palomar and The Barbary are opening a pub in Chinatown. It'll be a three-floor affair including a basement kitchen counter and a cocktail bar.

The low-down

Barely settled down from opening Jacob The Angel earlier this year, the team behind The Palomar already have their next spot lined up.

They're taking over Chinatown pub The Blue Posts. A pub has been there for at least 275 years and, given the work at Jacob the Angel, you can bet the team are going to celebrate that history as much as possible. Here's what to expect:

The ground floor will be the main pub. High ceilings, many drinks. And now we know what bar snacks will be on offer (starting on Friday 15 December), including the following:

  • Pork crackling
  • Fabrique bread and Neal's Yard Dairy butter
  • Cantabrian anchovy soldiers
  • Haddock strips and alioli
  • Mallorcan sausage roll

Plus three sandwiches: New England fried fish sandwich- £9.80
Roasted pork belly & apple sauce roll £10
Ogleshield cheese, onion & English mustard toastie - £4.50

The beer cellar is becoming Evelyn's Table, a single kitchen counter. There will just be 11 seats here - and promises to do what the Palomar and Barbary team so best - a damn good counter spot. Expect the kitchen behind the counter with food handed directly to diners. And it's bookable - something of a change for them.

snugThe snug

The first floor is The Mulwray, a cocktail lounge. Lots of marble and brass. Oh and it has a lovely snug which would be perfect for taking over for a party.

In charge of the food will be Head Chef Nacho Pinilla. He's Executive Chef of The Barbary and as well as looking after Evelyn's Table, he'll also be creating a bar menu for the other areas.
