The Dairy in Clapham expands with The Delicatessen

The team behind the Dairy

The Dairy in Clapham is easily one of the most raved about restaurants in London by "people in the know" and was also thought to be one of the biggest omissions in this year's crop of new Michelin stars. If you haven't been to visit, then get down there now.

And if you have been, then there's one more reason to go back as they prepare to launch The Delicatessen.

What you need to know about the Delicatessen

It's been a dream of the Dairy's Robin Gill to launch "a proper artisanal delicatessen" and to that end Robin, Sarah Gill and partner Matt Wells have taken the site next to the bistro (formerly a phone shop). They've also converted an old storage shed below the rooftop garden into a full production kitchen /bakery and smoke house creating everything on site for the shop.

The shop will be restored to its original Victorian form. They'll be focusing on making the most of the original features including an old tiled family crest (from some 90 or so years ago) "USD". This was, according to Gill, "a dairy in its original form where we pinched the name. There's also a beautiful original tiled frontage and original tile floors inside."

It'll be the place to go for some of your Dairy favourites. There will be breads, terrines, house charcuterie and The Dairy's own house-smoked salmon. Plus they'll have their own churned smoked bone marrow butter, chicken liver mousse, house pickles, ferments and more. They're specifically focusing on launching a small range so they can keep the quality to the same standard as the main bistro.

Where is it? Right beside The Dairy at 5 The Pavement, London, Clapham SW4 0HY

And when does it open? January 2015
