Taco festival, Barbary bookings. tapas in the City and more - the weekly round-up

It's time for our weekly rundown, with news of how you can now book at The Barbary (briefly), a taco festival, summer in Finsbury Square and more..

.

You can book the Barbary for lunch, for now...

barbary3ILunch may be a LITTLE early for shots with the chefs...

Yes, it IS hard to be organised enough to get a space at The Barbary counter quickly - not impossible but a bit of planning is required. But if any type of waiting just isn't your thing, then get ready for next month. From 5 June, they'll be open for lunch bookings, at 12 noon only from Monday to Friday. So if you are yet to try the place, and you really should, now's the time. To book, email them at foodmonth@thebarbary.co.uk.

Nest gets ready for warmer weather with Summer on the Square

Summe ron the Square

Nothing says summer’s on the way like an outdoor pop-up, so it’s heartening to hear that Nest’s Summer on the Square is almost ready to launch. The restaurant, which will be easy to spot in the middle of Moorgate’s Finsbury Square will be dishing up seasonal small plates, ‘British tapas’ style. It’ll be a no-nonsense, BYOB affair led by Johnnie, who’s also worked at the Michelin-starred Harwood Arms. Find out more about Nest’s Summer on the Square on their website

Plot in Tooting Broadway Market hosts one-off ‘waste’ dinner

Hot on the heels of Selfridge’s WastED comes Tooting Broadway Market’s Plot with its first ‘waste’ dinner, made with produce that would otherwise be thrown away. It’ll be run in conjunction with food charity The People’s Fridge, and on top of a special menu, which will vary day by day, will also include cocktails like a Cabbage Sour made with pickling liquor from the kitchen. Find out more about the pop-up.

Tacos, tacos and more tacos at the London Taco Festival

If you’re a lover of all things tortilla-based then make a note - the next London Taco Festival will take place on 8 June on Brixton Beach, where guests have been told to expect “tacos, tacos, and more tacos”, along with frozen margaritas, tequila and Latino music. It’s being run in conjunction with increasingly popular Clapton taqueria Del 74, who *definitely* seem to know what they’re doing.
