Suvlaki is bringing their Greek kebabs to Brick Lane

What: Suvlaki

In a nutshell: Greek kebabs, sides, wines and beers in Brick Lane

Summing it all up: When the sun’s out, we love food that makes us feel like we’re on our summer hols. This new Greek restaurant in Shoreditch looks just the job, complete with an open plan kitchen and robata charcoal grill for that oh-so-summery BBQ smell.

Greek kebabs on Brick Lane...

Now that the weather is firmly set to 'warm' mode (well, fingers crossed...), we’ve been loving Mediterranean food with a sun-drenched feel, so it’s great to hear that a new Greek spot called Suvlaki is soon to open in East London. It's coming to Brick Lane, an area of town that's had a lot of interesting new restaurants crop up recently.

The Brick Lane restaurant will be all about its eponymous dish, suvlaki, aka Greek kebabs made with meat and veg which you’ll either be able to order ‘off the stick’ or bulked up with a bit of fresh pita bread. It’ll be cooked on their special robata grill, which is always nice for a bit of a show, which you can watch it from their rescued church bench.

On the meat front, there'll be plenty to choose from, fom wild boar with smoked aubergine (we’re thinking baba ghanoush vibes) to king prawn with rose aili. Scottish Texel lamb will be slow cooked and served with veggie couscous while some Gloucester Old Spot Pork has chilled beetroot. And for the adventurous wanting something a bit less traditional, go for their citrus wood-smoked eel with parsley bread crumbs.

You’ll be wanting a few sides to go with your suvlaki, and there’s a fairly wide range of familiar meze classics to choose from, like tzatziki, moussaka, and naturally, Greek salad.

It’s no secret we love the odd tipple or two, and Suvlaki seems to know what they’re doing with a small-but-well sized menu of Greek wines available by the glass and carafe, plus craft beers imported from the country. They’ll also be dishing up (optional, but probably recommended) shots of fiery, brandy-esque Mastiha imported from the island of Chios with their desserts.
