Oblix at The Shard launches new American history bar menu

Oblix at The Shard launches new American history bar menu

“Woah, awesome corridor,” exclaimed a visiting Yank, perfectly on cue, as we walked down the shadowy passage and into the sleek interior of Oblix. The floor-to-ceiling windows and low lighting perfectly frame the lights of London beneath. If you’ve come for the view, you’ll return for the impressive new bar menu. All of the cocktails are inspired by America’s history - whether that be “geographical, historical, political or even fictional.”

The attention to detail sets Oblix apart from a crowded cocktail market: More Buck More Bang, a take on the Moscow Mule, comes with a Polaroid-style coaster featuring a member the bar staff. It’s inspired by the bartenders across America who took a Polaroid photograph of themselves with their creations to enter a competition run by Mr Smirnoff to find the best Moscow Mule in the states.

Similarly impressive is the Voodoo Vie, served in a posturing rooster and topped with spun sugar and a white chocolate skull. There’s no need to leave room for dessert when there are drinks this delicious on the menu. However, if you do want to line your stomach, the padron peppers are dangerously moreish.

No matter what you order, be sure to ask the bartenders for the story behind the concoction. It’s guaranteed to be as enchanting as the drink itself.
