Nobu Hotel Shoreditch (plus restaurant) is opening in London

22/5/17 - updated with opening date

What: Nobu Hotel Shoreditch

In a nutshell: Nobu gets a third London restaurant. Oh, and there's a hotel attached.

Summing it all up: Nobu have opened hotels across the globe, but this is their first European one, right in the heart of Shoreditch. And, of course, that means Shoreditch is getting a Nobu restaurant too.

The low-down

We've been expecting this for a while - and you might have seen the building slowly coming to shape in Shoreditch - and now we're getting some real details about the London Nobu hotel. They've opened them in Vegas, Miami and Manila - and this is the first one to open in Europe.

And at the heart of it is the huge Nobu Shoreditch restaurant. It'll seat 240 and promises to have "a series of innovative culinary experiences, specially created for Nobu Shoreditch". And if you can't get into the restaurant, you can order the food in the lobby bar, meeting spaces and, if you're lucky enough to be staying, on the 24-hour in-room dining.

You can expect the usual Japanese, Peruvian and other South American elements from Chef Nobu Matsuhisa - with Executive Chef Greg Seregi and Head Sushi Chef Teruya Noriyoshi in charge at Shoreditch. Expect Nobu classics like Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, with some Nobu Shoreditch exclusives including:

  • Hokaido Scallops with Foie Gras, Sautéed Japanese Mushrooms, Aji Matsuhisa and aged Balsamic
  • Sea Bass with Yuzu Kosho, Tomato and Cucumber Salsa, Honey Truffle and Black Truffle Shavings

There's a Nobu breakfast too - the first one in London - including:

  • Benedict Matsuhisa with Crab, Sauteed Spinach, Crispy Tofu and Shiso Bearnaise
  • Matcha Waffle with Chicken and Smoked Maple Ponzu

And we like the sound of the grand staircase that leads up to the restaurant. Essentially, expect it to look a bit impressive with lots of glass walls and doors.

On top of that, there's a four-level terrace, which can fit 80 people (and you can hire them too) as well as a semi-private dining space overlooking the custom-built, open kitchen for 18. The restaurant has its own bar and they'll have vintage sakes, limited edition Japanese whiskies and rare champagnes.

As for the hotel itself, it has 243 rooms (starting from £250) all designed with a contemporary feel. But if you're feeling VERY flush then you'll just want one of their 7 suites, each with a balcony that overlooks the courtyard and the pocket garden downstairs or even the exclusive Nobu Suite that has a view of the city, as well as a lounge and dining area. We'll assume that Robert DeNiro will have his eye on that one if he's staying over. The suites start at £460.

Will it be enough to attract the celebs from the comfort of west London to Shoreditch? We shall see...
