McCain’s Roastaurant pops up in Brick Lane with 6m sq tray of roast spuds

McCain’s Roastaurant pop-ups up in Brick Lane with 6m sq tray of roast spuds

We confess, when we first heard that lord of the oven chips McCain was running a pop-up, we didn’t quite know what to expect. Southern fries butties? Truffled oven chip mash? Spicy wedges dauphinoise?!

Instead, the frozen food brand has chosen to focus on roasts, offering “the choice of over 100,000 possible roast combinations” in something that sounds not too far off a Toby Carvery.

To be fair, some of the options do sound a bit more exciting than the usual, like pigeon with onion rings and chocolate gravy, or beef brisket with fried egg and charred pineapple. The whole thing will be rounded off with a behemoth, 6m sq platter loaded with thousands own brand roast potatoes, and a “gravy microbrewery” they’re likening to a craft ale tap room. Honestly, we're not sure if we can be trusted to ever stop pouring from a gravy tap.

If you're curious, tickets are priced at £7.50 for a sit-down roast dinner, or if you'd like to be honest with yourself about why you're really there, it's £5 for unlimited roast potatoes with one of their five gravies between 7pm and 9pm.

When: 8-10 December

Where: Old Truman Brewery,91 Brick Ln, London E1 6QR
