Humble Grape open their first wine bar on Battersea Rise

humblegrape

Battersea Rise looks to be a good place for wine lovers with the opening of Humble Grape's wine bar. The wine importer - which specialises in seeking out handcrafted wines from small, relatively undiscovered vineyards around the world - crowdfunded £500k to open this, their first bar.

Upstairs customers can buy wines to take home while downstairs they can drink them by the glass or bottle at the bar for a fraction of the standard on-trade markup. Wines include a Cantina Ronca Pinot Grigio, 2013; Blackwater Underdog Chenin Blanc, 2014; Domaine des Maréchaux Rosé, 2014, Bordeaux and a Galfano Frappato, 2013 from Sicily.

The bar has room for 60 on two floors with a bar fashioned from old champagne riddling racks. There's also going to be food with a menu focusing on small-plate dishes and sharing platters. A cheese platter (£11.50) features Bleu de Basques, Brebis de Lavort, Pont-l’Évêque, Chevre Sainte-Maure, Comte and is served with olive sourdough. The meat platter at £13.50 includes rillettes, terrine, two kinds of salami, parma ham and olive sourdough. There's also a Buena Vista Club sandwich (£8.50) - stuffed with mortadella, porchetta, provolone and a watermelon and feta salad £5.50) with pomegranate and an orange dressing.

Humble Grape wine bar officially opens 15 July 2015 at 2 Battersea Rise, London SW11 1ED. Keep up with their news on Twitter @humblegrape
