Updated 18/2/15 with menu details
Sunny Streatham has an interesting new opening coming up in the form of Hood. Brother and sister team Robin and Melanie Frean (pictured) have taken over what was the Raj Poot on Streatham Hill and will be serving Modern British food. To that end they've nabbed a chef from Caprice Holdings to head up the kitchen - Mick Brown was Senior Sous Chef at Le Caprice.
“Every chef dreams of their own restaurant and meeting Robin and Melanie has enabled me to realise mine and get behind the stove in my own kitchen," says Mike. "I’ve been a resident of Streatham Hill and [am] looking forward to putting a bit of my personality into a diverse, interesting and delicious menu, and being part of a welcoming and friendly neighbourhood restaurant.”
As for that menu, dishes include:
Nduja Croquettas, with wild garlic mayonnaise
Gem hearts, bitter leaves, blood orange, fennel and ewes' cheese
Pan fried lambs kidneys, cauliflower, raisins and capers
Hood Salad, seasonal leaves, cucumber, croutons and a crispy egg - with free range chicken or smoked pigs cheek or both
Fillet of hake, braised artichokes and Dorset clams
Rhubarb snap crackle and pop
The team are also putting a lot of energy and thought into the drinks offering too, with a list of beers from South London and Sussex. That local theme continues with Sussex wines and gin on the menu too.
Hood will open on 28th February 2015 at 67 Streatham Hill, London SW2. They'll be running a soft launch of 15% off food and drink from 20-26 February. For full details on how to book go to their blog and keep up with their news on Twitter @hoodstreatham.
