Friday round-up: wine pop-ups, Peyton & Byrne for to war and more...

It's a wine-focused round-up this week, as we look at a couple of special events south of the river...

Vintner barPop-up wine in Balham

Known for their Toast and Roast events in Hackney, A Grape Night is heading South, this time to Balham for a pop-up wine bar.

They're setting up the Vintner Bar and they'll be
focusing on wines selected from cooler climates - Kremstal in Austria, Val d’Aosta in Italy and Mendoza in Argentina. Accompanying these will be some cheesy extras - home made Montgomery’s cheddar straws, Comté mac n’cheese and fondue-like Baked Tunworth with walnut bread.

The Vintner Bar will run every Friday and Saturday night from 8th November until 21st December from 6:30 to 10:30pm at Trinity Stores, 5 Balham Station Rd, London SW12 9SG. For more information, follow them at @agrapenightin.

Wine Car Boot in SE1

Still on wine, the second Wine Car Boot is imminent too. This sees a number of independent wine shops getting together under the arches between Southwark and London Bridge tube stations.

Taking part in this event are Last Drop, The Good Wine Shop, The Sampler, Vinoteca, D Vine Cellars, Market Row Wines, Roberson, Bottle Apostle and Planet of the Grapes with more to be announced. Tickets are £10 and include five free tasters, a wine bottle carrier (to fill up with bottles to take home) and a specialist Govino outdoor tasting glass.

The second Wine Car Boot is on November 16 at Union Car Park, Great Suffolk Street, SE1 0UE. To
book tickets, go to www.winecarboot.com.

Peyton & Byrne coming to the Imperial War Museum

While he's continuing to win plaudits for Keeper's House in the Royal Academy, Oliver Peyton has conquered a south London institution too. He'll be taking over all the food at the Imperial War Museum which is undergoing a major revamp. They'll be opening two cafes there with seasonal "modern British menus" in Summer 2014. We'll have more news on this as it comes in.

Plus:

  • 28-50 in Mayfair, Marylebone and the City are now all offering a half lobster and a glass of Bollinger for £20. Follow them on @2850Restaurant
  • It's the Modern Pantry's fifth birthday and if you fancy celebrating with some Modern Pantry goodies, they've just launched an online shop at www.themodernpantry.co.uk.
