Five Guys opens with queues round the block. Reading is next.

fiveguysSo for those of you who haven't filtered out any talk of burgers on your Twitter timeline, it's been hard to ignore the opening of Five Guys. The US burger chain opened its first store in the UK in Covent Garden at 11am this morning, and the queues have been round the block since.

Hot Dinners popped down to check out the scene (although we baulked at joining the queue) and chatted to their director of franchise Mark Moseley who answered a few questions for us. The first was why online ordering is currently offline - apparently it had to be taken down due to high demand and it was slowing down the queue - they'll be getting it back up as soon as they can.

For those of you who are thinking of heading down today - the nice thing is that you all get Five Guys hats as they're handing those out to everyone in the queue.

4pm update: right now it's a 40 minute wait.

And if you don't live or work near Covent Garden we have more news on the other stores they have planned. The Five Guys in Reading will open next month. They've signed five more leases and are planning to open between 8-10 by the end of 2013 and already have a further 17 stores planned for next year.
