Brompton Food Market duo take on Kensington pub The Hour Glass

hourglass

Well here's a pub opening we're pretty darned excited about. The Hour Glass pub is getting two new owners - Luke Mackay and David Turcan, who currently run Brompton Food Market. And if the food offering at the pub turns out to be anything like the stuff we've had from their deli then this might be worth crossing town for.

Luke has form for taking on pubs and turning them into something special, having already done this with well regarded country pub The Royal Oak in Bishopstone. He and David, who focuses on the business end, are college friends and they've teamed up with hugely experienced pub landlord Henry Gravells (The Pilot Inn in Greenwich, The Cabbage Patch in Twickenham and The Salutation in Hammersmith) and chef Tm Parsons (formerly at Islington's Public House) to create a dream team.

On the beer front, expect a lot of London brewers on draft options alongside proper scrumpy and at least 3 guest ales. There'll also be plenty of local beers in the bottled section too.

The menu will take advantage of the relationships Luke and David have forged with artisan producers that supply Brompton Food Market and will change regularly, but ideas of dishes to expect include:

  • Sea Bream with Cauliflower, Burnt Leeks and Brown Shrimp
  • Flat Iron Steak with Dripping Chips and Bone Marrow Gravy
  • Chocolate Porter Cake with Milk Ice Cream and Honeycomb.

As for the pub itself, expect a glorious old boozer look with an upstairs dining room with room for 28 diners.

The Hour Glass reopens in September 2015 at 279-283 Brompton Road, London SW3 2DY. Opening Times will be Mon-Thurs 12-11pm Fri-Sat 12-Midnight Sunday 12-10.30pm (although check with the pub for food times) Keep up with their news on Twitter @TheHourGlassSK
