Brighton's The Coal Shed comes to London at One Tower Bridge

Brighton's The Coal Shed comes to London at One Tower Bridge

What: The Coal Shed

In a nutshell: Fresh seafood, dry-aged steak and specials, plus sharing plates and Sunday roasts, all served Thameside.

Summing it all up: After enjoying considerable success in its seaside home of Brighton, The Coal Shed is making its first foray to the capital where it'll be setting up shop in the new One Tower Bridge development with over 120 covers and fresh seafood delivered directly to the restaurant by boat.

The low-down

If you've been meaning to get down to Brighton to try The Coal Shed, or its sister restaurant The Salt Room, but haven't quite made it yet, you're in luck. A new Coal Shed will shortly be making its way to London, destined for the huge new One Tower Bridge development on the Thames.

So far, we know that there'll be a focus on seasonal, sustainable meat and seafood, including a range of 35-day dry-aged Scottish steaks that'll be cooked on hot coals - which we're assuming may be related to the name. A selection of small plates will make it a good pick for large groups, not to mention its hefty Sunday sharing roast.

There'll be specials on offer too, including rare breed cuts, and lots of seafood. In a very Brighton-esque nod to its roots in the seaside town, there'll be fresh fish and crustaceans delivered directly to the restaurant by boat. The kitchen will be looked after by Dave Mothersill and Laura Petersen, with drinks taken care of by head bartender Matt Ottley.

The Coal Shed has been named by OFM as one of the best places to eat in the UK, and we had a brilliant meal at The Salt Room just after that opened,  so we're quite excited to have a chance to give it a go without having to make a return trip to the seaside. It's not likely to be open anytime soon though, as One Tower Bridge is quite far away from being ready - no surprise really, given it will eventually contain not only some top-notch restaurants, including the Ivy, but also a 900-seater theatre and a luxury hotel.

Founder Razak Helalat said: "Since opening nearly six years ago, it feels like a natural progression to be opening to a new audience in London where we’ll remain fully committed to our love for quality ingredients, expertly cooked. It goes without saying that we’re more than excited about what’s in store."
