Bibendum Oyster Bar given redesign and new menu

oysterplatter26 years after it first opened, the oyster bar at Bibendum is undergoing a radical redesign. The bar  has been given a comprehensive update by Sir Terence Conran and Richard Doone.

The new-look bar will now have an all-day menu which has been worked up by Head Chef Matthew Harris and Simon Hopkinson. It'll now be open from breakfast between 8-11am Monday to Friday and 9-11am on Saturday with a morning menu featuring Eggs Bibendum (two poached eggs, English muffin, duxelles and hollandaise sauce, £9.50) and the full Bibendum cooked breakfast (£12.50).

Just in time for the winter, the redesign sees the bar wrapped in specially-commissioned glass screens that cover part of the open forecourt. And in place of the flower stall is a new open kitchen.

The new all-day dining menu reads like a real treat, split into the following sections, Crustacea and Fishy Things; Nibbles (quail’s eggs with spiced sea salt); Pizza and Pasta, Substantial Dishes, On Buttered Sourdough Toast - we quite fancy the woodcock at £6; Substantial Salads, Daily Roast, Daily Changing, Cakes and Pastries and finally Cheese & Biscuits & Desserts.

There's also going to be a separate sandwich menu and seafood takeaway menu running alongside the main Oyster Bar menu, and every weekend will see a take-home lobster special from the Crustacea Stall.

Bibendum Oyster Bar officially opens with its new look on Monday 4 November 2013 at Michelin House, 81 Fulham Road, London SW3 6RD. No bookings. Opening hours will be Monday-Friday 8am–11pm (breakfast 8am–11am); Saturday 9am –11pm (breakfast served 9-11am); Sunday noon–10.30pm (all day menu only; last orders at 10pm).
