Aquum reopens and brings a touch of the med to Clapham

Aquum reopens and brings a touch of the med to Clapham

Clapham High Street cocktail bar Aquum will re-open this week with a new Greek-themed menu and dining area.

Aquum’s refit includes a brand new dining area, menu and chef, and the decor has been totally revamped in a distinct step away from its reputation as a late night drinking destination. And while its cocktail bar will still be a main focus, revellers will be encouraged to head down for some Mediterranean-inspired dinner, as well as a bit of party.

Anastasios Tologlou, formerly at Medlar and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, will be looking after things in the kitchen, and is responsible for the new menu which reflects his Greek roots as well as his experience in Michelin-starred restaurants.

The sun-drenched menu comes just in time to stave off those longer nights, and those who decide to take the plunge will be able to choose from dishes like pastichada ravioli with veal and Greek Gruyere or Seftalia sausage pitta with cauliflower. Seafood offerings will include chargrilled octopus, and black bean and razor clam salad, and there’ll also be sharing plates, great for those who don’t want to overdo it before a big night out.

Over on the newly fitted bar, the Greek theme continues with plenty of alcoholic offerings from the med. Apart from local wine and beer, you’ll be able to try a Greek Rose Spritz, with rose-petal infused Metaxa - a wine brandy blend. Or for seasoned drinkers, try the extra-boozy Greek Negroni, blending skinos mastic liqueur (a 30% spirit) with Bombay Sapphire, vermouth and campari.

And if you’re off to hit the High Street, kick start your night with one Aquum’s house-infused shooters. After all, you should never mess with tradition.

Aquum relaunches on 7 October at 68-70 Clapham High Street, London, SW4 7UL, with the food served Sunday - Friday 5pm-10pm and Saturday 5pm-9pm. Alcohol served until late. Follow Aquum on Twitter @Aquum.
