Angela Hartnett opening Merchant's Tavern in Shoreditch

Angela Hartnett opening Merchant's Tavern in ShoreditchUpdated 12/9/13 with opening date and menu details

Merchant’s Tavern, a new collaboration between Angela Hartnett, Neil Borthwick, and Canteen founders Dominic Lake and Patrick Clayton-Malone, is set to open in Shoreditch this September.

The 130-cover restaurant and bar is located in a Victorian warehouse building on the edges of the City that previously housed Cantaloupe and will serve a seasonal modern European menu designed by Hartnett and Borthwick. Our mouths are already watering at the prospect of dishes such as Roast Quail, Hazelnut Pesto, Remoulade and Foie Gras (£9.00); Salt Cod Cream, Pickled Fennel and Toast (£8.00); Roast Turbot, Coco Beans, Anchovies & Bread Sauce (£18.00); Mallard, Braised Endive & Sarladaise Potatoes (£21.00) and London Honey Tart, Malt Whisky Cream and Crème Fraîche (£7.00) and Rum Baba, Caramelised Apples & Raisins (£6.00)..

A bar menu featuring Jesus Salami, Bresaola and Fennel Salami (£6.00), Veal and Ham Hock Kromeski and Tarragon Mayonnaise (£4.00) and Deep Fried Artichoke, Red Onion and Mint Salsa (£3.00) plus a solid selection of British lagers, stouts and ales will also be on offer, to cater for a more casual walk-in crowd.

If Neil Borthwick isn’t a name that sounds familiar the restaurants on his CV certainly will be, having previously worked at The Square, The Connaught and Michel Bras’ eponymous three-starred restaurant in Laguiole.

Front of house will be run by Thomas Blythe, formerly general manager of St. John and Fino, and Tania Marie-Davey previously restaurant manager of St. John Hotel and Fifteen. With the added pedigree of Angela Hartnett and the know-how of Canteen’s founders, Merchant’s Tavern is definitely one to watch.

Merchant's Tavern opens 8 October 2013 at Charlotte Road, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3PE
