Alcotraz is Brick Lane’s new prison-themed pop up where you smuggle in liquor past guards

If you like a bit of an illicit vibe to your drinks, be it Bucks Fizz at breakfast or a secret speakeasy, now you can go the whole hog and literally drink in prison at Alcotraz, a new prison-themed cocktail bar popping up on Brick Lane - orange jumpsuit provided.

So named after the infamous historical prison complex of Alcatraz off the coast of San Francisco, Alcotraz will be going to great pains to recreate the atmosphere of the prison. You’ll be asked to “smuggle in” the spirits for your cocktails, given your very own inmate number and possibly even given a stint in a cell.

It’s not all doom and gloom though - after you’ve done your time, you’ll be able to have some fun by sipping on personalised cocktails, served up in what the bar is calling a “discreet container” so you can avoid getting caught by the “warden”.

The £30 ticket will also include four drinks made from your spirit of choice, chosen at the start of the evening, as well as 1hr45m inside before you’re released from behind bars, back into the world.

When: 28 Sept - 17 Dec, Thursday to Saturdays

Where: 212 Brick Lane, London E1 6SA
