It was foodie central at the Freemasons Hall in central London tonight as the great and good of the food world gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Observer Food Monthly Awards.

As you might imagine, the party food was a step up from the usual fare with canapes being supplied by Angela Hartnett who created 10 canapés to represent each chef nominated for Chef of the Decade’s signature…

Bompas & Parr join up with Heavy Metal Bowling for a BBQ night

Steering very far away from the jellies that they're best known for, Bompas and Parr's next feast will see them linking up with Heavy Metal Bowling at Finsbury Park's Rowan's Bowling Lanes with their own "Metal BBQ". The whole thing sounds decidedly barmy. In a very good way.

In between throws to the soundtrack of Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Elder, The Sword, Slayer, Sleep, Metallica - y…

Sticks & Sushi set their sights on Covent Garden

(Updated 17/10 with more details)

Covent Garden is having resurgence. Once sneered at by the food snobs for its host of cheap and tourist-targeted restaurants, in the last few years we've witnessed and enjoyed a plethora of well operated eateries offering delights from across the globe: tapas at Opera Tavern, Jewish fare Mishkins, great French food at Green Man & French Horn and the eagerly aw…

It's been a while since a new restaurant debuted on the South Bank but Topolski, which opens there on November 1, is set to change that. Named after the Topolski Century art bunker it replaces (no, us neither), the bar and restaurant will pay homage to the artist who was an official war artist during the second world war. They'll do that namely by featuring his paintings on the walls and through a…

It had been a while since we heard from chef Bjorn van der Horst. There was a lot of love for his Eastside Inn when it opened where Burger & Lobster now is in Farringdon. And Bjorn was one of the first chefs we ever interviewed. But the fact that B&L is now there shows that sadly things didn't work out for him.

But now the chef is back in the country and h…

We popped along last night for a preview of the hotel's public spaces, namely the bar and the Mirror Room where the hotel's executive chef Bjorn van der Horst is in charge of an all day dining menu.

In addition to this, sta…
