The Mayfair Chippy may be bringing fish and chips to Knightsbridge

Mayfair Chippy Knighsbridge

There really aren't many proper fish and chip shops in the centre of town but of them, The Mayfair Chippy has a pretty decent reputation.

Just steps away from Oxford Street, their Mayfair restaurant has always been a draw for tourists but it helps that it manages to be good too. It might not be quite up to the standard of the average seaside fish and chips but it delivers for the centre of London.

Now we hear that the same team are looking to expand (they've already opened at Bicester) and are looking to follow up Mayfair with another well-heeled area - Knightsbridge. They're taking over what was apparently an outpost of Il Baretto (but we're not sure if that even managed to open). Less than a five-minute walk from Harrods, it's a small space like the original Mayfair Chippy although this will also have two private dining areas if you fancy a fish and chips party.

As for the food, details are thin on the ground, but expect something similar to the original. So you'll have your standard fried cod or haddock, alongside other dishes like a fish finger butty, lobster macaroni cheese, battered prawns, kedgeree scotch eggs and more. The original also has an "Afternoon Sea" which is a chilled seafood platter to share.

We'll bring more details about this closer to the opening - but we can see it being a hit in Knightsbridge. And as for that name? Signs are that it'll still be called "The Mayfair Chippy" even in the new location.
