Hovarda joins Hawksmoor as a floating restaurant in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf folk who've been wondering who was going to take over the other huge floating restaurant beside Hawksmoor at Wood Wharf now have their answer. It'll be the Canary Wharf outpost of Aegean restaurant Hovarda, which has been serving up Med-style dishes in Soho for the past six years.

Well, that's half the story at least, as Hovarda will only be taking on the water-level deck of the building, with the upper deck's resident still to announce. Hovarda's new City restaurant will be a huge space though, with room for just under 140 diners and a huge terrace for use when the weather improves.

IF you haven't been to the Soho original, then you should know that dishes mostly take their inspiration from the Greek and Turkish food cultures. On the menu you'll find:

  • Saganaki, barrel-aged feta wrapped in kataifi, drenched in truffle honey and topped with basil
  • Tuna tartare served with avocado, cashews and petimizi
  • Red prawn orzo with a bisque sauce, chilli oil and marjoram
  • Lamb kleftiko with sauteed oyster mushrooms

The cocktail list takes a similar geographic slant with plenty of raki on offer alongside Mediterranean takes on classics, like a Mykonos Sour.

It sounds like it's going to be a good spot for locals and office workers to go to let their hair down in the evenings with DJs promised for late-night partying.
