Akara comes to Borough Yards from the man behind Akoko

9/10/23 - Updated with the opening date

The man behind Fitzrovia's Akoko, Aji Akokomi, is getting ready to open his next West African restaurant - Akara in Borough Yards.

An akara is a crispy savoury fritter made from black eye bean and you'll be seeing those on the menu here, all with different fillings. They include carabinero prawns & vatapa, hand-dived scallops, ox cheeks and chanterelle mushroom patê.

That's only part of the menu, with barbecued dishes including labu aged beef, dibi lamb and aubergine dressed with chilli oil. they'll also have caramelised onion & honey ice cream alongside tamarind date cake and bofrot, a Ghanaian doughnut.

The West African approach continues on the drinks list and you'll also see some Akoko cocktails on the list here, including the Cacao & Dates Negroni, with new additions including a Smoked Plantain Caipirinha.

It'll be a smaller restaurant than the original, seating 40, with a six-seater bar and a private dining room on the mezzanine for 12.

There's nothing else quite like this in Borough Yards - so it's definitely one to watch.
