Just months after chef James Cochran closed his own sports bar Valderrama's in Islington, another hospitality group are clearly hoping for a better outcome for their new sports bar opening at Angel. Maven Leisure (owned by the same people behind Chelsea's The Botanist and Aviary in Moorgate) are behind Northwood which is going to be opening at the Angel Central shopping centre, next to Birdie's.
It's going to be a whopper of a pub with room for over 170 punters and 12 giant UHD screens so you'll never miss a goal or drop shot again. There's no word on the menu yet, but if we look over at their other sports pub Greenwood in Victoria that serves up a mix of stonebaked pizzas, burgers, wings and sharing platters.
Beer is obviously the big draw here with a range of lagers, ciders and pale ales on offer on tap along with a wider range in bottles and cans. They also go big on G&Ts with a special menu of serves and there's a tight wine list.
The sports pub and kitchen is expected to open this autumn, hopefully just in time for the Rugby World Cup.
