Back in 2020, we reported on the arrival of an interesting new pizzeria in Dalston, going by the name of Gordos. It came from an ex-GM at Yard Sale, Jesse Elias. Well, the Dalston crowd loved their pies but the craziness of Covid caught up with them and five months after opening they were forced to forfeit their lease.
Now, in case anyone comes to us and says, "But Gordo's is still open..." that's the landlord who has reopened as the Gordos team hadn't gotten around to copyrighting their name. They've since fixed that with a rebranding to World Famous Gordos.
In the intervening years, you may have spotted them popping up all over town from the Dalston Roof Park to TT Liquor, collaborating on the way with everyone from Hot4U to Rocks Oysters and Patty & Bun. As Jesse explained to Hot Dinners, the decision to go this way wasn't planned but actually enabled them to be more creative with the menu and forge closer relationships with the people they work with.
Now all of that has led to them coming back in semi-permanent form. From this summer you'll be able to find them in Netil Market where they've taken over the old BAO corner site. They'll be serving what they describe as 'very large pies from a very small menu'.
There will be three always-on pizzas:
- Marinara with a crust coasted in garlic and herb
- NY Cheese - a tomato and cheese pizza with fior de latte mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and a sesame seed encoated crust
- Everything Pepperoni - collab with the bagel guys featuring San Marzano tomatoes, spicy pepperoni and scarmoza cheese
Plus, you can expect to find a rotating chef's special rotating "so there'll always be something fun on the menu" and daily sides. The first collaboration's already on the cards - they're teaming up with Ten Ten Tacos this summer.
All in all, it sounds like a positive turn for both Gordos and Netil Market goers who'll be able to avail themselves of top pizza slices from this summer.
