Masala Zone takes over the Grade II listed Criterion building in Piccadilly Circus

Masala Zone is ramping things up a notch for its latest opening, taking over the highly impressive Grade II Criterion building on Piccadilly Circus.

Easily one of London's most impressive dining rooms, the building has changed hands a few times over the past decade or so with Masala Zone promising an entirely new look for the room (where the Grade II restrictions allow, of course) with Indian inspiration in the decor throughout. If you've been there in its former guise, you'll know it's a big old space fitting in about 150 and there's an impressive bar space too.

As for the restaurant, which comes from the same team as Chutney Mary and Veeraswamy, it's billed as a "panoramic range of proper Indian food from the gourmet homes and street stalls across India’s regions". So dishes range from their Goa prawn curry and chicken saffron korma across to traditional thalis and a Lucknowi lamb biryani.

It could be a very useful addition to the West End scene, particularly the pre/post-theatre crowd looking for a spectacular room to dine in.
